Microsoft Windows Vista

Every single folder on every drive is read-only. I try to change it by typical means and it acts like its changing, but it doesn't. I open up the folders Properties again right after Applying and OKing, and it is right back to Read-Only. It is really irritating since some programs won't let you add files to folders that have the Read-Only property. Please, somebody help.

every folder read only changed

Hi,

This is often misinterpreted and confused with permissions. The "read only" attribute does not apply to folders, only files. It is ignored on this level by the system. If you are having difficulty writing to a folder, it is not because of a "read only" attribute, it is because your user account does not have the proper "write" permissions. Though you see the attribute, it does not apply and should actually appear greyed-out as it has no bearing at the folder level.
